Ballet, ballet and more ballet

There are a number of books which exist to help you with your questions about the ballet world, and the dance world in general. For example, The Book of Ballet is one such great book if you are an older reader, while My First Ballet Book is great for the very young and it comes in hard cover edition, to make sure that it remains in good condition. For the advanced, there is The Ballet Companion, by Eliza Gaynor Minden. There are of course many more, and although nothing van replace a dance class with your teacher, they make useful

An important element that you will find is that grooming is always essential in dance. If you look smart, and have good quality dancewear, you will be less sloppy in your work.  Discipline in grooming is an important part of dance, and will gain you good marks in an exam and make your performance what it should be.

At The Ballet Shop we offer a number of items which are important for your grooming in class, such as ribbons (which should always be clean), bun nets, hairbands and bun holders.

Opening hours back to twice a week

Hello everyone!

We've been very busy with the start of the new scholastic year, and have only now begun to calm down a little.

Since most people have already purchased their uniforms for the scholastic year, we are now going to revert to opening on Mondays and Thursdays, 5 - 7 p.m. or by appointment. Naturally our website is always available, and you can always give us a ring and set an appointment.

We also have a branch at Mandy's Dance Academy, in Marsascala, so if you live in those parts of Malta, please call her. Her contact details are available in the Yellow Pages.

We have added a host of new items at The Ballet Shop's website, so take a look and see if anything tickles your fancy. Christmas is soon coming, and you might want to order something special for yourself or for your dancing friends!!

Happy shopping!

Back to School

I know this is a little late in coming. The scholastic year has started again, and with it, the mad rush to get your kids organised for their dance class, be it ballet, jazz, tap or any other discipline.

It is always exciting to see little children in their new outfits, especially when they are first starting off. The new leotard and skirt, new ballet shoes... It is important that the children remain well groomed throughout the year, and not only during the first lessons. A large portion of the marks in a dance exam or assessment goes to grooming, and grooming and discipline are an important part of dance. Also, if the child is well-groomed and looks smart, she is more likely to put an effort into her dancing.

If you have not yet got your child's dancewear, take a look at our ebay store, or at our online ballet shop. We have a vast range of sizes of full sole children's ballet shoes - these are perhaps the most important item to be monitored. An ill fitting shoe could mean damage to your child's feet - which is even worse than bad grooming!

We also have some ballroom shoes on sale at the moment. We do not have all the sizes but will be willing to try to help if we can procure your size.

Happy shopping and good luck to everyone for the new scholastic year.

Some ebay items ...

Hello again! It's been quite some time since I've written any posts, but of course it's been busy enough with summer, and most people will be out at the beach, rather than shopping online ... so I let them be!!

I have taken the time to place some new listings in my ebay shop. Besides a number of keyrings, I have some tights. Of course, we do have other possible items to be listed - all you have to do is send me a message on ebay, or even write an email to theballetshop@onvol.net and we will try to help you. Naturally, the fastest way to find what you need is to visit our new ballet shop site, which is packed with our stocks that increase regularly.

We also give shipping discounts, and in some cases, shipping is free. So go on, grab your bargains now !

Website temporarily under maintenance

In our efforts to bring you a better service and a better selection of products, while making your ballet shop experience worthwhile, our website is temporarily down while we work on creating a new one. This site will be more user friendly and will bring our special offers to the fore - so you do not have to look for them.

If, meanwhile, you require any dancewear, you can use our ebay shop or send an email to: theballetshop@onvol.net

New discounts at The Ballet Shop

I have decided to place the velvet leotards and certain other items in a new category at The Ballet Shop - the Discount Corner. This is because I think that the velvet leotards are more suitable for colder climates than Malta. Shipping to Malta is free, but don't lose heart if you live abroad. Generally speaking, European countries are charged postage EUR 3.50 per order, while orders from countries further away attract a charge of EUR 6.00 per order.

Click on the images to view the discounts - the leotards are approximately at half price! The discount corner also contains other discounted items, such as spare rubber soles for your jazz shoes, which come in black.

If you make bulk orders, we are willing to give bulk discounts. For us, bulk orders mean that you have at least 5 of the same item, and a minimum order of EUR 200. We are of course willing to make other discounts - just send us an email on theballetshop@onvol.net to enquire about the available discounts.

Sansha Convertible ballet tights

We've been listing sansha convertible ballet tights on ebay lately, and have found quite an amount of success with them. The tights are not expensive so that you can take them to the theatre or wear them for practise, and if they become slightly misused during class or rehearsals - or even during the show - it does not matter one bit as you can replace them fairly cheaply from us.

We would also like to remind you that we offer shipping discounts on multiple orders so it would be worth stocking up with a few. This applies even if you purchase different items, such as a pair of tights and a pair of ballet shoes.

Often our items are listed for a particular size or colour. If you wish to change this, please contact us before bidding and we will check availability.

Looking forward to seeing you soon - visit our ebay store now !

Sansha Convertible and Ballet tights on ebay

I've listed some ballet tights on ebay, one of which are the fantastic Sansha Convertible Tights. I've also added some kids' and adult ballet tights.

All are 70 denier, and made with microfibre, which gives fantastic flexibility and support, while retaining a look which is not too bright.

These tights are not shiny, so that your appearance on stage remains slender.

As with all tights, you have to avoid wearing bracelets and rings when handling them. We offer postage discounts on multiple orders, and we ship worldwide so visit our ebay store now!

Teacher's, Lyrical and Ballroom shoes on ebay

We are pleased to announce that we have three pairs of shoes on ebay that are a little bit different to our normal style of shoes.

First, we have a pair of teacher's shoes, which look like a ballet shoe but have a heel. These are the 'Prima' and are in pink leather. They provide comfort and flexibility, so that they feel exactly like the ballet shoe but the teacher is slightly different from the students - by wearing a modest heel that does not obstacle balance.

We also have the Greek Sandals in Pink leather - Magnifica - which are lyrical shoes. They are, however, part of the teacher's shoes range on the sansha website, which means that you can also use them as teaching shoes. Their shape means that the provide better support and comfort for the long hours in the teaching role.

Finally, we have a lovely pair of ballroom shoes which we are very proud to market. These are the Astoria, and they come in black patent leather with a suede sole, with a 6cm heel (2.5 in). Since they have a closed toe, you might want to wear them socially - there are very similar shapes being sold on the shoe market.

Good luck with your bidding.

The Ballet Shop acquires full ownership of the retail outlet, Palkett

AS you may have already read elsewhere, we are now full owners of Palkett, the retail outlet of The Ballet Shop. This is found inside the College of Jazz Dance (YADA) in San Gwann, Malta.

Our current opening hours are Monday and Thursday, 17.00 to 19.00. We plan to increase those hours in the near future. We are also always available online, and post worldwide. If you are in Malta and would like to pay a visit outside the office hours, you can call on +356 9948 6293 for an appointment.

Nothing changes - except that we will try to market a single image.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Discontinued items - sansha pendants

We are very sorry to see that Sansha are no longer making their lovely silver-plated pendants. The range used to be very pretty, and we had quite a few sales - even demands for large quantities. We've even had to cancel orders because we ran out.

We apologise for any inconvenience. We will be removing the items from the site.
